The song was written by Saddleback Church Magnification Ministry team member Alva Copeland. About the history behind the song, she writes...

"I wrote the song, Reach One More', after Pastor Rick Warren shared with the Saddleback congregation about his father, Jimmy Warren, passing away from cancer. He shared intimate details about Jimmy's last days, and how in his delirium, his father repeated more than a hundred times 'gotta reach one more for Jesus.' This moved me to the core. I really feel something in me changed after hearing that testimony. I wrote the song that same night, at around 2:00 in the morning from start to finish. I gave it to Pastor Rick the very next day, just as a personal gift, never expecting to ever sing it... the rest is history. Look at God!"
